We recognise that Autism often co-exists with ADHD and offer autism assessments in Oxford, within our Centre, for both children and adults.
People with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) typically have difficulties with communication, relationships and social interaction. There are also often other challenges like learning difficulties, emotional and behavioural problems, sleep difficulties and sensory sensitivities. People with ASD also typically have very fixed ideas and interests and literal thinking, which can cause additional difficulties in their lives.
Our autism assessment for children is conducted over three appointments and includes an ADOS assessment and a detailed specialist developmental interview (ADI-R) with parents/carers. Both appointments are carried out by our specialist clinicians. Feedback is provided in a third appointment by the clinician who carried out the ADI-R.
Additionally, we are also able to offer a full cognitive assessment to look for any learning difficulties that may not have been previously identified, including specific difficulties that sometimes are present with ASD.
Our adult autism assessment is conducted over three appointments and looks at both childhood and adult symptoms by gathering as much information as possible from relatives or friends who knew the person as a child. It also involves a comprehensive interview directly with the adult, and both appointments are carried out by our specialist clinicians. Feedback is provided in a third appointment, conducted by video call by one of our specialists.
